Selling Questions
How do I get an idea of what my car is worth?
You can bring your vehicle in to the Auto Auctioneers for an appraisal at any time during our normal business hours. * One of our consultants will give you an estimate and suggest a possible reserve. The decision as to whether you want to book in for the next auction is then up to you.
Should I leave the car at the auction after the appraisal?
You can leave the car with us at any time. The longer the car is on our premises prior to auction, the more opportunity prospective buyers will have to view it. At the very latest, a vehicle needs to be with us by 10 am on the day of an auction.
What does booking a car in involve?
After an appraisal has been done for you there is a form to be filled in at the office, which gives Auto Auctioneers the authority to sell the car on your behalf. Remember, the setting of a reserve (part of the booking in process) means that we cannot sell your vehicle for less than the reserve without consulting you first.
What documentation do I need to bring with me?
We do not need any documentation. The checks we do on the vehicle will provide us with the information we need. If the vehicle you are selling does not belong to you then you will need a signed authority form the registered owner to sell and negotiate on their behalf.
What does it cost to book a car in?
Nothing. There is no booking in fee.
What does it cost me when my car sells?
The commission charge is calculated on the selling price and is deducted from the price paid by the buyer. Click here for the commission schedule.* Remember - no sale, no charge.
When do I find out whether my car has sold?
You are welcome to call us at any time to find out whether the vehicle has sold.
When will my car go through auction?
Generally, a vehicle will go through in the next auction for that price bracket i.e. Wednesday for cars up to $6000 and Thursday for the open price range.
Do I have to be there for the auction?
No, but you can if you want to be. It is important, however, that we know how to contact you on the night of the auction in case we get an offer close to the selling price and we need to present that to you.
Can I still use the auction if I owe money on the car?
Yes, but when booking the car in you need to declare any amount owing and to whom. You will need to provide us with a settlement figure from your finance lender. We will, on sale of your vehicle pay out to your finance lender the amount required to settle and the balance of the net amount will be yours.
When do I get paid out?
A cheque will be available two working days after the sale.
The cheque will be made out to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Should I clean the car first?
A well presented car is always more likely to sell and can fetch a better price. If you don't have time to do it yourself , we can offer a valet service at reasonable rates.
Does the car have to have a current warrant and registration?
The auction can sell vehicles without a current warrant or registration but bear in mind that this is likely to be reflected in the price reached.
What happens if my car doesn't sell during the auction?
Our consultants are working for you before, during and after auction. If the vehicle doesn't reach the reserve under the hammer we may ring you after the auction to negotiate if we get an offer which is close. If the vehicle doesn't sell at that point it can be left with us to be booked in again for the next auction.
Who does the change of ownership after the sale?
We take care of that.
